Welcome to Veterans High School

The Houston County Board of Education appointed Dr. Amy Barbour as principal of Veterans High School during today’s called Board meeting. Dr. Barbour has served as the Veterans High assistant principal for instruction since 2010. She has been with the Houston County School System for 14 years.

"I am very blessed to be able to continue to work with the students, staff and parents of Veterans High School in a new capacity,” commented Dr. Barbour. “It is a great honor to be able to work, lead, and learn as a Warhawk, and I look forward to continuing to support our tradition of creating graduates of character in an environment of excellence."

Barbour received a bachelor's degree in English with secondary education certification from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 1996, she began teaching at South Johnston High School in North Carolina. Having taught all levels and content areas of high school English in North Carolina and Alaska, Dr. Barbour came to Houston County in 2004 and began teaching at Houston County High. After serving as the English Department Chair for two years, Dr. Barbour served as an assistant principal at Houston County High before joining the Veterans High leadership team. She has earned a master’s degree and specialist degree in School Administration and Leadership from Georgia College and State University. In addition, she has a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Leadership from Columbus State University.

Dr. Barbour is married to Lt. Col. Stephen Barbour, who is stationed at Robins Air Force Base. They have two children: Hannah, a junior at Veterans High, and Landon, an eighth grader at Bonaire Middle.
