The Houston County Board of Education named Chad Simmons as the Principal of Veterans High School during their meeting on February 10, 2026. Simmons currently serves as an Assistant Principal at Veterans High. He will begin this new role in June when current Principal, Dr. Amy Barbour, begins her role as a Director of School Operations for the Houston County School District. “I would like to thank Dr. Rogers, the Executive Cabinet, and our Board members for this tremendous opportunity. I look forward to continuing to uphold the Standard of Excellence at Veterans High School while building upon the strong legacy established during the school’s first 16 years,” said Simmons.

“I am both humbled and honored to work alongside such an outstanding faculty, staff, and student body. Together, we will remain focused on academic achievement, student growth, and meaningful opportunities in athletics, fine arts, and extracurricular activities so every student is prepared for success beyond graduation. I am excited to partner with our families and community as we continue to move Veterans High School forward.”

In 1999, Simmons began his career in teaching and coaching both football and baseball. Before joining Veterans High, Simmons served as an Assistant Principal at Northside High School. He also currently serves as the Athletic Director at Veterans High. Simmons received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern State University in 1998. He went on to receive a master’s degree in Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern State University and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College in 2008.

He and his wife, Jenni, have three children: Ti, Lydi and Hudson.
