Ike Thompson

Bio

Dr. Thompson hails from Michigan, but has spent nearly all his adult life here in Middle Georgia. He earned a B.A. in English from Western Michigan University (MI), an M.A. in Professional Writing from Chatham University (PA), and an Ed.S and Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State University. In 2011 Dr. Thompson was recognized as Georgia Council Teachers of English's Teacher of the Year and Houston County's Gifted Teacher of the Year. In 2017 he was selected as Veterans High School's Teacher of the Year, and throughout 2018 he served as Houston County District's Teacher of the Year. He was also selected in 2018 as a Georgia Top Ten Teacher of the Year. Currently Dr. Thompson teaches AP Lang and American Lit; he also serves as English Department Chair for VHS and as the Houston County Student Bass Angler Federation Director. In addition, he works with the National Math and Science Initiative as an Instructional Coach and Content Developer, and serves as the Teacher Facilitator for State Superintendent Richard Wood's Student Advisory Council. Outside of work, he is an active sportsman and fan of the Michigan Wolverines.
