After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Macon State College, Mr. Bates began teaching English at Veterans High School in 2011. Since then, he has earned his Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from Liberty University and his Specialist of Education in Secondary English Education from the University of West Georgia. In addition to his Specialist degree, he also received his reading endorsement from the University of West Georgia. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Education in Secondary and Middle Grades Education at Kennesaw State University. 

While teaching at Veterans, Mr. Bates has had the privilege of coaching golf, cross country, and soccer.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Bates has a wonderful wife, Sarah, and two amazing children, Charlotte and "Jonny."
